Pickup Progress - June 7, 2008

Charlie and I got the center console template built on Friday, (made out of foam board); then, today, I cut it out of MDF and kind of pieced it together for a photo. The two cross pieces in the photo above, (spanning across the top), are just temporary pieces to hold it together. There will be ribs or bulkheads placed to hold it together and compartmentalize the console. The back part of it will have a lid with padding for an armrest over a storage compartment; the middle part will have a couple of cup holders, power window controls; and the shifter, the front piece will have the radio, and the A/C controls. The bulkeads will fit in slots on each side wall and will be held in place by machine screws. The only way to get this in and out will be to remove the bulkheads and take the side walls out individually. The whole thing will be upholstered along with the seats. The opening at the bottom of the front part is intentional - to provide air cross-flow.

The dash insert template is shown, (that white thing where the dash is supposed to be), running from side to side. The blue stripes on the white is masking tape to hold the two-piece template together and hold the template to the dash. I need to determine where the gauges will be located along with all the other controls in the dash.

Earlier today, I tried to take a picture of the pickup with my Sony digital camera, but it refused to work. I tried several things to get it to work, but it appears to be a lost cause; so, I went to Circuit City a couple of hours ago and bought us a new Canon camera, (like Teri and Dave's).

Until next time...
