Denver Trip, Day 1

We left Hutto at 5:45AM on Wednesday and headed up IH-35. I set the cruise control on 63MPH and cruised. We went through some heavy traffic in Ft. Worth around 8:45 - 9:15, then smooth sailing into Oklahoma City. We stopped at the Flying J truck stop near the intersection of IH-35 and IH-44. The DIC (Driver Information Control) showed that I had gotten 12.3mpg, but the actual calculations on mileage and gallons showed 11.91mpg. That's not too bad for a rig with a total weight of about 16,500#. We then went next door to the Cracker Barrel and had lunch, (Marilyn's favorite place to eat). We headed north on IH-35 after eating, and arrived at the KOA campgrounds around 6PM. I used the cruise control set at 63 again for the 2nd leg and the DIC showed 13.2mpg for the Oklahoma City to Salina leg of the trip. I won't fill up again until I get to western Kansas or eastern Colorado, (50 gallon tank makes fuel stops less frequent).

The photo above shows the rig in the back row of the campsite, which is about 200' from IH-70. We won't have to go far to get started in the morning.

Until next time...

Wow! 12 hours! What time do you think you'll get into Denver? I was thinking about parking somewhere and riding into Cherry Creek State Park with ya'll so I don't have to pay for a day pass...

I hope you're having good weather. It's been pleasant here, I'd expect considerably cooler where you all are. Big hugs to everyone when you get there!!! -- Laura
